There are two ways in my opinion to see a country. As a tourist or a backpacker. You can go to a country and spend a week or two in a nice hotel being weighted on hand and foot, seeing the local sights that the tour company’s want you to see or to live and breathe with the locals for an extended amount of time. arrive off of a plane, train, ferry at two in the morning with no hotel reservation no idea of the city or the culture, hopefully if your lucky another backpacker who you have just met on the way and you decided you want to travel with for a few days or weeks because there just as crazy as you. Maybe a nice local who you have struck up a conversation with and offered you a meal or a place to sleep for a couple nights. Not seeing fellow countrymen or even foreigners for days or weeks on end, have everything you own on your back in your pocket and in your heart. Be forced to have an open mind to everything because what you have grown up with and learnt to this point is now foreign. Ride the emotional ride which is traveling, not having your family or a solid group of friends around you, trying to fit into a culture that you know nothing about. trying to figure out what to do when your passport and wallet is stolen or when that nice local you meet cons you into paying 5 times the local rate, but the next day seeing the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen, looking upon wonders of the world which most people only ever see on TV, partying hard all night long and still waking up with a wallet still full of cash. Cold showers, 30 hour bus rides, back breaking beds, sharing a room with strangers, no personal space, living off 2 minute noodles. Welcome to the classroom of life.......
